Welcome to our Community! The City of Thousand Oaks, population 121,000, lies within the Conejo Valley, a picturesque, mountain-rimmed plateau, 900 feet above sea level in Ventura County. This family-friendly community continually ranks as one of the safest cities for its size in the nation by FBI reporting standards. Topping out at #1 in 2003.
Thousand Oaks is home to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. As the only performing arts center of its size between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Civic Arts Plaza, provides outstanding entertainment opportunities to Southern California residents and visitors in the Countrywide Performing Arts Center. The Civic Arts Plaza is also home to City Hall and a spacious five-acre.
Thousand Oaks is proud to have a City-operated Library at 1401 E. Janss Rd. The Newbury Park Branch Library is located 2331 Borchard Rd.
Our community is served by the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) which operates four high schools, four intermediate and 19 elementary schools; 16 have been named Distinguished California Schools. Thousand Oaks is also home to California Lutheran University.
Park services and recreational programs are offered through the Conejo Recreation & Parks District (CRPD). The CRPD also operates the City-owned Thousand Oaks Alex Fiore Teen Center and Goebel Senior Center with year-round activities.
The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), a joint agency between the City and the Park District, preserves more than 14,500 acres of natural open space and maintains more than 75 miles of trails.
The City operates one public golf course, Los Robles Golf Course. Los Robles Community Banquet Center, located at the golf course, is a beautiful facility for that special event and is available for rent by individuals and groups.
Thousand Oaks is also home to the National Park Service Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area Headquarters.
Thousand Oaks is a General Law City with a Council/Manager form of government. Under this type government, the City Council is the policy-making body, appointing the City Manager who is responsible for carrying out Council policy. The five Council members are elected from the City at-large and meet two Tuesdays a month. Council meetings are televised live on TOTV-Channel 10, a government access television channel providing Thousand Oaks' citizens a window on government.
